Many mechanical devices depend on friction plates, or vital drive components manufactured from tool steels that are precision ground, all pressured by spring force.
These devices are generally installed on the input of a drivetrain. In applications where the overload is very infrequent, devices can ‘freeze’ over time and continue to drive at dangerously higher torques or increase their release torque with improper or inadequate lubrication.
